Purpose: Main area of focus is in the conceptualization, development, testing, commercialization and deployment of the robotic vehicles, devices, and systems of Tompkins Robotics. Requirements include internal and vendor management, patent development, large scale roll out to industry and build out and management of robotic team. In addition, manage, direct, lead, and support the Tompkins Robotics team in a variety of roles at different levels - managerial to executive depending on the need presented at any given time. Intimately involved with client relations, full sales cycle, operations design management from concept to after go live support, and product development invention, commercialization, and implementation. Leadership role in terms of HR, hiring, financial, organizational management, and other functions. Reports direct to the President and works autonomously much of the time.. Essential Job Functions:. Ability to drive design and implementation of automation solutions like t-Sort and systems beyond t-Sort.. Create new inventions and applications for robotic systems to include current portfolio expansion, third party adaptation, and new inventions and technology.. Contribute to and be an integral part of Tompkins' further evolution of automation for material handling applications - these efforts will include next generation t-Sort and systems beyond t-Sort.. Strategic thinker working with the Tompkins Robotics team to develop the feature/functionality roadmap by identifying requirements, prioritizing enhancements based on market needs and coordinating releases for continuous product improvement.. Participate, lead and assist on the overall Product Development Roadmap management and success as a part of the leadership team.. Leverage industry knowledge and creativity to develop supporting system designs that optimize the application of the t-Sort material handling and complimentary systems.. Direct and manage initiatives as needed to take a solution from concept to market ready state.. Function as an executive in the Robotics group and lead major activities, initiatives, groups, and functional areas as required.. Adapt to specific needs and changes as required in the role of VP to address current critical needs for the group.. Oversee and lead key areas and participate in the leadership of the overall group - achieving short term tactical goals when needed and focusing and delivering on long term goals defined by the leadership team. Manage internal resources, external third parties, and any other required elements to facilitate the above product development initiatives.. Take the lead on the sales full life cycle for certain key customers, key accounts, key applications, and key sales / marketing initiatives. Includes all phases to include concept development, proposal stage, contract negotiation and full contract execution to include subcontractors and all required project aspects. At times this may mean directly managing the overall day to day operations of a major project or accounts. Ultimately responsible for the overall success.. Be a primary leader in the business development, sales, marketing, and branding functions and direct the supporting teams, personnel and activities.. Manage and maintain customer relations with assigned accounts and develop a recurring revenue stream and ongoing relationship with key stakeholders.. Working in complex technical and customer landscapes with speed and efficiency. Articulating the vision and value propositions clearly to the correct stakeholders. Working across business to drive value for the broader Tompkins Robotics team. Lead initiatives and proactively mitigate risks. Lead, direct and manage the development of tools to assist in or accomplish a variety of tasks in the areas of sales, pricing, PMO, implementation, lead generation, and others as defined by the leadership team.. Ability to lead the development of organizational, financial, HR, and other support areas infrastructural development.. Fiscal ability to maintain margin and cost budgets of projects and the organization throughout the year and deliver to the expectations of the board and external customers.. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets.. Has full authority for personnel actions.. Extensive knowledge of department processes and manages policy and overall organization effectiveness.. Job Requirements:. Bachelor's degree in an Engineering or other related field. Significant experience in robotics invention, design, development, installation and operations management.. Prior leadership role(s) in a robotics environment.. 15+ years' experience directly related to key aspects of this job description. This position requires a willingness to travel in the US and abroad and the level of travel will vary from extensive to minimal at different times.. Proven verbal and written communicator - ability to deliver speeches and key documents in a timely, effective, and extremely professional manner.. Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines effectively under time constraints. Ability to manage multiple large-scale initiatives and bring them to successful closure. Experience and ability to work in a multivendor (internal and external) delivery and support model involving a variety of partners.. Previous IT or MHE development background a plus. Previous experience in distribution operations, material handling systems, or similar areas a plus.. Multi-lingual in English and another language (Chinese or a major EU language) a plus.
